The genesis of Rantan Productions' documentary Outing Gay Hate was the bombing of an AIDS Council office in Queensland. Media coverage of this appalling gay hate crime provided a rare glimpse of the negative, often hostile social environment in which Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender (GLBT) people frequently live.

To break the code of silence and increase discussion about gay hate crime in Australia, Rantan Productions has also produced the Outing Gay Hate Awareness Kit - a fully developed resource to raise awareness and understanding of gay hate crime nationwide.

In a series of 6 workshops, detailed in a comprehensive 70-page Facilitators Manual, participants examine the key issues. Homophobia, GLBT visibility, the random nature of gay hate attacks, non-reporting by survivors and the consequences for GLBT people of behaviour monitoring, are all explored. Compelling video inserts also assist to generate workshop discussions and aid awareness.

Through greater understanding of these issues the general community will be better able to respond to the special needs of gay hate crime survivors. The Outing Gay Hate Awareness Kit will also increase awareness within the general community about the serious implications of unaddressed and unchallenged homophobic attitudes in school-age youth.

Outing Gay Hate - the documentary screened nationally on SBS Television's Prime Time documentary slot, The Cutting Edge in February 2000.

The Outing Gay Hate Awareness Kit has been acquired by Universities, Education departments, Police services and community organisations around the country.

The retail price of the Outing Gay Hate Awareness Kit is $880 including GST.
